        ABOUT GRAHAM RAMSAY

Graham Ramsay approaches the craft of photography from a creative viewpoint. Going beyond the mere image, he is interested in the implications, subtext, and context of his subjects.

This philosophy informs his fine art portraiture by bringing the viewer into visual dialogue with his sitters - who they are, what they think, how they feel about their world. It also has a direct effect on his commercial work, offering images that reveal more than just technically executed likenesses.

His portraits give the viewer a context for understanding his subjects. He captures them in professional environments, places of recreation, and in their homes. Even in studio, his portraits draw out the subjects, making them co-conspirators in the act of creating the photograph.

Graham's subject matter is wide ranging and includes narrative/editorial images, architectural studies, figurative pieces, landscapes, urban settings, and studies of movement. Along with traditional black and white and color photography, he is committed to fine art alternative processes, especially gum bichromate printing.

In addition to his commercial work, he exhibits regularly in the greater Boston area and teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Student Art Association.
